Profile

I started training when I was 11 years old. I have always had an interest in martial arts, it probably didn’t help that my uncles were hooked on Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, so in one way or another the martial arts were always around me. One of my close uncles was a blackbelt in Karate, this acted as a huge inspiartion as it made him a superhero in my eyes.

As I was growing up, I had major problems with racism that lead to me having low self esteem. I was looking for a solution to my problems in the martial arts. I had tried Karate, Thai Boxing and had looked at many other classes but I couldn’t find a class where I felt comfortable. It wasn’t looking good until I found Mr Roy Bertrand and Focus Taekwon-Do.

I found a multi-racial, family based environment that immediately struck a chord with me. I was very lucky not only did I find a class of champions but also a life mentor in Mr Roy Bertrand.

Over the last 20 years I have been the English, Welsh, Inner London and British Champion. I have been an Instructor for over 10 years. I teach children at the moment and it feels great to be able to make a small difference to my community and give children the same opportunity that made such a big difference in my life.
